Sarah, the wife of Abraham, is first mentioned in Genesis 11:29. Her name originally was Sarai, changed by God (Gen. 17:15) to Sarah, which means princess. She was about 65 years old when she and Abraham left Haran (cf. Gen. 12:4-5), and 90 years old when she gave birth to Isaac (Gen. 17:17; 21:1-7). Sarah died at the age of 127 and was buried in the cave of Machpelah (Gen. 23:1-2). She is mentioned again in the Old Testament only in Isaiah 51:2, as the mother of the chosen race.
